Nook HD Review
Lisa Gade reviews the Barnes & Noble Nook HD. This is Barnes & Noble’s latest color LCD eBook reader and tablet. It has a very good 7″ 1440 x 900 IPS display that’s quite bright, a dual core OMAP 1.3GHZ CPU and 8 or 16 gigs of storage. it’s an ePUB eBook reader that works with B&N eBooks/magazines/newspapers, Google Books, Sony Reader Books and Library books but not Amazon Kindle eBooks. It has single band WiFi 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth. It also has a music player and video player for B&N video rentals/purchase and locally stored MPEG4 H.264 video and a microSD card slot. It runs a heavily skinned version of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Должен заметить, что не такой уж он и «крепко сбитый». На Nook Color у меня достаточно скоро появились небольшие, но отчётливо заметные люфты. Разъём питания, на первый взгляд идентичный USB Micro, на самом деле им не является, и обычным USB Micro ни заряжать, ни к компу подключить не удастся. К тому же, сам корпус разъёма у меня через полгода довольно аккуратного пользования развалился, и теперь замотан изолентой.
Hey, I got mine yesterday, does yours have tiny perforations (nicks) under the glass screen about every 0.5 inches in rows and columns?
Try this: turn it off and hold it flat out about 5 inches from the level of your chest and view it at about 35 to 45 degrees angle with a light source shining from overhead.
Looks like a perforated car leather seat but in white dots/nicks.
Is this normal or defective. Does your N7 have these dots?
Hey Jim. Thanks for this video bro. I’m looking to buy two tabs for my 7 years old twin. They are very tech knowledgable. They love Netflix and will be disappointed if they get a tab without netflix. Does this have have netflix capability? If yes, how good is it?
Does anyone know whether I could transfer all my old PDF files to this from my current PC or laptop? Does it work like my phone where you just plug it in via USB and it will appear as an external storage device? I really want to buy one of these but mostly need it for PDFs.
The 2nd generation Nexus 7 literally just came out couple of days ago. $229 base. Its amazing, but this Nook is indeed a steal. Review of N7 is on my channel if you’re interested. Thanks for any support.
Jim, I watch a lot of youtube Nook HD+ review. I want you to know. YOUR’S IS THE BEST one I’d seen. I especially appreciate the Side-by-Side video shot against ipad 4 retina display. My only disappointment is you didn’t do the same with 2013 Nexus 7 review. I would like to see new N7 vs old N7 vs Nook HD side by side. Good Jobs!
Beating my head on the wall trying to decide between the Nook HD+ and the Kindle Fire HD (or maybe even the HDX). Since I have an amazon prime membership, I want a tablet that will play Amazon Instant Videos. Is it possible on this Nook?

google «game[dot]com handheld pics», the nicks are not as bad as that-way more subtle.
Total dots/nicks are about 26×50, so about 1300 dots total.
Did lots of searches and found that theater screens have tiny dots to allow for better illumination and audio passthru.
This is the 2nd one that has these dots, but I’ll keep it though since it only cause the ‘rainbow effect’ on 1 tiny letter, imagine this utube page full display on portrait mode.
(PLEASE READ) THIS TABLET SUCKS SO BAD! I’m using my last battery life cause my last charger broke, and before I leave this pile of junk. I just want to say, this is the worst tablet I’ve ever seen. This was meant for books. Then they added the playstore in. Like no there’s no cameras on this thing. The chargers brake easily, its just a peice of garbage and I’m glad I broke this charger so I don’t even to play this tablet. 3ds is better than this. Why make a app to read instead of making a tablet that cost 300$ or more. Oh wait… THEY DID MAKE A APP!!!! I hope to get a real phone. That to say. You guys will probally not see me online intill I get a actual phone. Goodbye nook hd. I will forget you.
My Mom has this! She is 82 and can’t handle anything electronic but seems to be easily getting around a little bit. I’m going to have her watch this at her leisure rather than me say, come on do it, don’t be scared lol. She was watching vids so much that it killed the battery ahahaha. She is a reading junky so this is heaven sent!
Ребята. У меня есть планшет.андроид 4.2. Время от времени отрубается интернет в нем. При этом, у рядом стоящего радиоприемника, слышны характерные звуки как при получении вызова на мобильник… Тоесть приемник гудит. Я так понимаю что это идет какая-то передача инфы, хотя на планшете показывает что интернет недоступен…. Посоветуйте, как выявить стороннее приложение, которое блокирует инет, при этом отправляя инфу, или наоборот получая, точно не скажу…. Да и помогает только перезагрузка планшета…а через 5-10 минут повторяется всё опять… И так раз 10-20… Потом всё вроде налаживается.. Тоесть блокируется инет уже не через 5-10 минут а примерно раз в час….. Миленькие, помогите советом. за ранее спасибо вам…
Just picked one for my 7 yr daughter. She loves it. I figured 79.99 is safe in case it breaks though she treated her iPod well enough. I got the 199.99 windows surface to back up my nexus 7. Black Friday deals were good kind of sad I skipped on the kindle fire but Google play access is best I think.
I gave the nook a F, I cant remove my ebooks after i delete them i even delete the book folder in the nook when i connect it to my pc and my books still shows up in my nook even though the book is empty when its connected to my pc its the worse pice of hard ware problem i ever had
I love my little Nook HD! for 125 or whatever bucks its awesome! got it for school and it was the best investment. I figured I would be returning it in a few days but heck no! I downloaded all my school power points on it.. swipe, read and take notes. It comes with an office viewer so you can have all of your powerpoints, lectures (highlight, take notes ect.) on it. Its as light as a small book and slips right into my bag. Its got a dictionary too, I look up Biology words all the time on it.
I just ordered one of these (Nook HD 16GB), and I can’t wait. Finally an interface that is unique and like no other! I love buying ‘underdog’ / underappreciated products; flawed geniuses, if you will.
Question: how is this for productivity? Can you create and view standard Word documents etc?
THIS IS A REALY GOOD TABLET I HAVE THIS ONE, BUT BEWARE IT DOES NOT ALLOW FOR APPS INSTALLED FROM UNKNOWN SOURCES SO I HAVE ROOTED AND INSTALLED CM AND CWM RECOVERY MAKING THE TABLET EVEN BETTER IF YOU ARE A NOOB WITH ANDROID MAYBE GET A DIFFERENT TABLET

Hey Sean. For the price of the current Nooks, its a great deal. Quickly answering your question, yes, Netflix does work on the Nook. Download the app (free). And its good. In my video test, the video was actually imo better than the current iPads. Playback and processing power was enough to handle Netflix with no problems. I’m back lol. The thing I don’t like about it is, you have to charge it on the elecricity rather than on your pc to save a few bucks. My Mom reads books on it of course and it seems the battery dies within four hours when it supposed to have a nine hour life span and she isn’t even watching vids within that time. Is that normal? I never get answers from you but thought I might try anyway. The charging takes forever.
You can put whatever you like on it now, has same android directory structure. You could either transfer via USB, or over wifi. I enabled sharing on my w7 laptops Videos folder, so I can connect via ES File Explorer.
The stock video player seems to prefer MP4 files, but I’ve played back avi, flv, mov etc via the free VLC app.
I had the Kindle 8.9 but traded it in for the new Nexus 7. I can’t get used to the smaller screen now so I was thinking of giving the Nook HD+ a shot but was not sure. Your video has helped me so much. I think I will give one a try.
Please Help!!! I successfully completed all the steps you performed in the video, but when I get to wifi connectivity, and become connected to the wireless connection, I get a network Problem and I am unable to proceed any further for the setup of my nook.
HD+ screen is 1920×1280 IPS, so great viewing angles and allows 1:1 playback of 1080p playback.
I’ve had mine for a few weeks and I love it, although I will say I swapped the stock launcher to Nova Launcher, then created a shortcut there back to the Nook homescreen/tabletop.
Best review, thanks. At this moment I have only a Nook GlowLight and have problems finding e-pub in Romanian. I’d like to know how Nook HD+ manage other formats like.rtf.pdf.txt etc.

Hey, wanted to ask you something. When you charge it, it takes like four hours to fully charge and I just got my electric bill and it seems it costs me a bit over 30 bucks just for charging! Is that the case or am I not factoring something else in LOL?
I’m thinking about buying one, but I’m a little nervous. I’ve heard there are battery/charging problems. I also read that B&N is discontinuing their nooks, and customer support is bad. If that’s true, is it worth buying a nook, because if I need help, where would I go?
Can anyone attest to this and offer some advice?
I love this thing so much! The only thing and it might be my time warner service but the vids would stop and start at times but that happens on my regular pc as well. Might actually be youtube that is causing that issue but other than that, no complaints here! I love when you turn the pages and it looks like real pages being moved lol.
Having had a Nook Color (I’ve been very happy with), the Nook HD is lighter and smaller. There is less room to hold onto, the edges are a little sharp, and it has a cheaper feel. I must say aside from the edges it feels very soft some how they even made the glass feel soft.

Just bought mine a less than a week and I chose this over the Galaxy Tab 3 because I love the screen quality. Also the gaming is so good. I have Nova 3 and Modern Combat 4 off play store which are very fast FPS shooter games and its flawless. This is well spent awesome review!
Hey Jim, I bought the Nook HD+ a few months back and bought the Micro SD Card (32MB) and I cannot figure out how to move something from my Nook to the SD Card. I hooked it up to my laptop and it doesn’t show any apps to move that way. Can you help me with that?

one of the worst reviews. only the positive things. what about no back button? the only option is to press home button. you cant download all apps from google play. for example kindle, netflix etc. ��
You don’t give the Nooks Battery enough credit. It can last for weeks If never used. The nook can remain on, but consume such little power. One time I used my nook after nearly two months of it being on, it still had probably 1-2/3 of it’s power left.

Picking mine up tonight, the Google play store combined with a 9 inch HD+ screen, for $149, is a crazy good deal and absolute no brainer. I’m replacing my Nexus 7 that broke, and wanted the bigger screen. Can’t wait!
hey! this is a pretty all-round and convincing review, though I still wonder a few things: can you just download your own pictures/pdfs/movie files etc (for instance from your gmail account) and use them? I mean is this android narrowed to use only the officially bought stuff? is there a folder structure at all? oh and can you remove that scrollable stack from the main screen?
I am totally blown away by the nook hd plus. I loaded dead trigger on it and it totally outperformed my 2012 nexus 7. Higher frame rate, faster load times, etc. Also runs virtua tennis perfectly. And not to mention how AMAZING these games look on that display. Didn’t expect that at all

как во становить Googl аккаунт после сброса настроек тупо требует и прикол в том что в магазе мне установили эти настройки а я их не знаю прошивка не помогает как сбросить их аккаунт и привязать свой?
