How to get the hat mark on top of the p? I type p, cursor stays with p on the right, click insert, symbols, select diacritical, click the hat. I have tried both Unicode Name: combine circumflex accent Character code: 0302 and Unicode Name: Modifier Letter Circumflex accent and both hats go to the right side of p.
Здравствуйте! Открыл файл Microsoft Word 2003, зашел в меню «Вставка», выполнил команду «Символ», а на экране диалоговое окно вставки символа не появилось, что делать? Кстати, проверил наличие этой «ошибки» в файле Microsoft Excel, там с этим все в порядке. Переустанавливал программу, не помогло. Спасибо!

Thank you, Joshua! What worked best for me for capital letters was writing in in Word first and then pasting into Excel. Inserting the character in excel with «Y» made the overscore overlap with the letter.

I also figured out you could go to Word Options, then Proofing, then AutoCorrect options, then select the «use Math AutoCorrect rules outside of math regions» option, and then you can type and of the commands under the «Replace» option to get the symbol you want (example: you can type \pm and you get the plus&minus sign). I then did what you did here and entered x-bar and p-hat into the commands so all I need to do is type \phat and \xbar, as well as \Phat and \Xbar.
