  • Thanks man it really helped out!:D I had a problem with transferring my old profile but figured it out in about:profiles. Hopefully my computer wont crash anymore. I use to get this message when I get on youtube though on the debian firefox ESR: [Child 13715, MediaDecoderStateMachine #1] WARNING: Decoder=7f25b1514000 Decode error: NS_ERROR_DOM_MEDIA_FATAL_ERR (0x806e0005) RefPtr mozilla::MediaSourceTrackDemuxer::DoGetSamples(int32_t): manager is detached.: file /builds/worker/workspace/build/src/dom/media/MediaDecoderStateMachine.cpp, line 3308

  • I think Debian is doing free software a disservice not taking the effort and shipping latest normal FF on Debian stable. Why do they do it with Chromium? Shipping ESR only is like sabotaging one of the most well-known open-source projects and favoring big tech giant behemoth junk software like chromium, which shouldn’t be trusted with a stick. Thanks Debian!

  • The followin has nothing to do with Firefox btw. Just wanted to thank you and say hello.
wow little did I know your little tut would just save my but on how to nano to modify a file in apt.conf
I broke my synaptic and my add.remove software and I had to modify apt.conf
commented the line APT::Default-Release “testing”; by adding // at the start of the line
    saved the file.
I was able to do this thanks to you. I could not modify the file by just browsing the file alone. Thanks again bro:)

  • thanks… very good, was getting frustrated with trying to use the tarball, a lot of bad tutorials around for trying to get that to work using a symlink, well, that is an oversimplified aproach that probably would have worked back in the day

  • root@xxx:/etc/apt# apt-get install firefox

Package firefox is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source

  • Great information. I have a project that calls for iceweasel to display my Google calendar. Well that’s out of date so the author said to use Firefox-ESR. It works ok on a Pi3A+ but it won’t run on the Pi Zero W. It installs but won’t even run. I even took the sd card from the 3A+ that it runs on and same issue, It won’t even run on the Pi Zero W. Doesn’t even show up on the task manager.

I’m wondering (maybe you know) what the difference between regular Firefox and Firefox-ESR. I’d like as little components near my monitor that I hang on the wall to display the calendar. I choose the 3A+ since it’s got a gig 4 core cpu (1/2 gig memory) and with less USB and no Ethernet should draw less power. Or should I go with a higher power PI. I have all models, Even one each of the 3 new Pi4’S. The only thing besides the calendar that I may want to do is watch YouTube videos on it while in the kitchen. Any ideas. And thanks for the videos. They are always informative and easy to follow.

I have it to load on boot on the 3A+ and it works fine. It will not work at all on the Z 0!

  • I suggest using the synaptic package manager in Debian. Most distros come with Synaptic already, but if not, just go install it. > apt-get install synaptic

After you install synaptic, go to your gui, applications > system tools > synaptic manager. All you have to do is just point and click whatever programs you want to install, and you will have it.

    Hope this helps!

  • RaHHHHHHHHHH! why does linux have to be so god damn confusing. Linux is got be the most un userfriendly thing I have ever used. I even took programing for a semester -_ I should NOT have to go into terminal to install F****ing firefox. Wasting 30mins trying to figure out something that should take 2min. If learning how to do anything is going to be this difficult, I’m just going to reinstall XP.

Sorry to troll on your video be seriously wtf linux.

  • Hey I got stuck. Plz help. It said [ Error writing sources.list: Permission denied ] so then I used sudo nano sources.list and I got the error, signatures could not be verified because the public key was not available. I am using OSMC on a RP2.

  • When I try to do this to install I run the command but then it asks me for a password.. I’ve tried my login password, my encryption password, I’ve tried typing ubuntu as I’ve seen done in another video, but they all say ‘sorry, try again’ what the fuck??
