Whether it’s a baby’s first steps, a clip from a wedding, a reunion with friends or some other special moment you don’t want to lose, you can download video from Facebook Messenger to your personal device so you can store them in your media library. This ensures you’ll have a copy of these videos you can easily find in the future, rather than having to dig through Facebook Messenger. The first part of this video walks you through how to save videos from Facebook Messenger to your iPhone, iPad or Android device, and the second part of this video walks you through how to save Facebook Messenger videos to a laptop or desktop computer..
First, we’ll walk through how to save videos from Facebook Messenger to your iPhone, iPad or Android device through the Messenger app..
Step 1. Tap the launch the Facebook Messenger app. You’ll land on the home screen..
Step 2. Tap to open the conversation that contains the video you want to save, and then navigate to the location of the video within the conversation..
Step 3. Hold your finger against the video. A row of emojis will appear over the top of the video, and a menu will pop up along the botom of the screen..
Step 4. Tap «Save» or «Save Video» in the list of options that appear along the bottom of your Facebook Messenger screen. A small box with a white checkmark and the word «Saved» appears over the top of the video you chose to save. The video will be saved to your device. You can access this video in the Photos app on your iPhone or iPad. You can access this video on your Android device by launching the camera in Facebook Messenger, and then tapping the icon featuring your most recent picture or video to launch the gallery. Your saved video will be accessible in this gallery. You can also connect your Android device, or iPhone or iPad, to a computer, and access your saved Facebook Messenger videos or download them to your computer. iPhone or iPad videos can be accessed by navigating to Internal Storage/DCIM in the drive associated with your device. Alternatively, you’ll need to ensure your Android device is in USB for File Transfer mode when connecting it to your computer, and navigate to Internal Storage/Movies/Messenger to access your saved Facebook Messenger videos..
And now, let’s talk through how you can save Facebook Messenger videos to your computer through the Messenger.com website..
Step 1. Open your Web browser, navigate to Messenger.com, and then sign in to your account if prompted. You’ll land on your Messenger home screen..
Step 2. Click the conversation that contains the video you want to save to your computer on the left side of the screen, and then navigate to that video in the conversation dialog that appears in the center of the screen..
Step 3. Click anywhere on the video. The Facebook Messenger video player will launch..
Step 4. Move your cursor into the upper left corner of the screen, where a menu will appear as you start to move your mouse. Click «Download.» A Save As dialog box appears..
Step 5. Choose the location where you want to save your video, and then click «Save.» The video will be saved as an MP4 file to that location.

Printing important Facebook Messenger conversations is a good idea to ensure you’ll always have a copy. Whether it’s for a court case, or to have as a backup in case those conversation threads get deleted. Regardless of your reason, it is possible to print your Facebook Messenger messages, but it does require jumping through a few hoops..
Now let’s walk through the steps to print your Facebook Messenger messages..
Step 1. Launch the Facebook app on your iPhone, iPad or Android device. You’ll land on your Facebook home screen..
Step 2. Tap the «Menu» icon along the bottom of the screen. The Menu screen appears..
Step 3. Scroll down to the bottom of the Menu screen, and then tap «Settings and Privacy» to expand that section. Tap «Settings» in that list. The Account Settings screen is displayed..
Step 4. Scroll down to the Your Facebook Information section, and then tap «Download Your Information.» The Download Your Information screen appears..
Step 5. Tap «Deselect All» to remove the check mark from all of the options for information you can choose to export from Facebook. Then, scroll down the screen to find Messages, and then tap the radio button to the right of Messages to place a check mark there..
Step 6. Scroll down to the bottom of this screen. Adjust the Date Range, Format, and Media Quality options accordingly. I’d recommend leaving them set to the defaults, which is to export all of your data in an HTML format at a high quality. Tap «Create File» when you’re done..
You’ll receive an email from Facebook letting you know that your request has been received, and then you’ll receive another email when your file is ready to download..
Step 7. Open a web browser and navigate to Facebook.com and log in to your account if prompted. You’ll land on your Facebook home screen..
Step 8. Click the drop-down arrow in the upper right corner of the screen to open a drop-down menu, and then click «Settings» in that menu. The General Account Settings screen is displayed..
Step 9. Click «Your Facebook Information» in the menu on the left side of the screen. The Your Facebook Information window appears on the right side of the screen..
Step 10. Click «View» to the right of Download Your Information. The Download Your Information screen is displayed..
Step 11. Click «Available Copies» to see a list of your available Facebook information downloads you’ve requested. Click «Download» next to the information file you want to download. It should say «Messages» beneath the date. The file containing your Facebook Messenger messages is downloaded to your computer..
Step 12. Extract the downloaded ZIP file to a folder, and then open the folder. You’ll see a Messages folder and an index file. Click to open the index file, which will open in your default web browser to a Your Information screen..
Step 13. Click «Your Messages» to open a window displaying a list of all of the people you had Facebook Messenger conversations with over the time frame you defined..
Step 14. Click the conversation thread you want to open. All of the messages in this Facebook Messenger conversation thread that happened over the time frame you defined will be displayed. From here, you can print this Facebook Messenger conversation thread from your web browser, or save it as a PDF. For example, in Google Chrome you would right-click on the conversation and then click «Print» to open the Print dialog box. Within that, you can click your destination to choose your printer or print this document to a PDF. Click «Print» after making your selection.

THANK YOU!! IT WORKED!! I was trying to send some documents to some friends the regular way by just clicking»add/upload a file» and it wouldn’t let me. It kept saying check the file type. It was a pdf so I was a little confused. then I checked the size and it was within limits. That’s when I went on the hunt and found your video! clear, quick, and straight to the point! I was able to send my friends the file! Drag and drop was the way! How strange! lol, thanks again!
Doesn’t work on my android phone. Just have emojis, then at bottom remove, reply and forward. This gives me the sh*its that there are so many varieties for the same issue. REALLY annoying (not your fault).
Hi, this worked upto step 12 and I can’t proceed to step 13 coz it’s telling me I have no app to open the link (your messages). Which app is needed when using an Android device? I just need to print all chat logs… tia
I followed your instruction but when I click DRAG & DROP my PDF file from a desktop it won’t let me.It has a Red Circle with red slash….but I can click using the attach icon and click open..the problem now is I can not open the PDF ATTACHMENT> why is that? what am i doing wrong?
Hey guys�� the way i do it is just go to Facebook.com on chrome go to the 3 dots icon up unusually right corner sroll diwn and check desktop site and go to my messages abd hit download on the voice message i just had to do it so i found that having desktop on ur phone can do a lot.
Until recently I seemed to be able to save/download videos and pictures from Facebook Messenger to my phone. Now when I hold on the video or picture in question, the only option I see below are either ‘Reply’, ‘Forward’, or ‘Remove’. Presumably it’s been updated to not allow you to do this anymore, but what what purpose I can only wonder why.
If your getting the error message click on the messages folder after you click that go to inbox folder click it and it should show all your contacts and conversations click on the desired conversation and they will be there Your Welcome
Well done video but contains non-functioning instruction.. Phones do not show safe option when a finger is put on the video for one or 2 seconds. The same failure happened with the use of computer; the safe icon on the top left corner of the screen does not show.
This Does not address sharing or saving videos that are not “personal” videos. I receive several videos that are political or otherwise not personal, but I would like to share “outside” of Facebook messenger. Neither Facebook messenger, nor iPhone allows this anymore. I Used to be able to at least copy the link, but no more as of July 2020. Censorship!!
This the most useless tutorial I’ve seen. You didn’t need 4 minutes at all and it didn’t work anyway.
I guess most people know how to download a video from messanger. The problem is, when the video was uploaded on Facebook and then someone simply shared the video to you. You can’t download it then. You have to use a browser, Google «download a video from Facebook» and you will have shitloads of websites to choose from. Then you just paste the URL from the fb post with video and there you go. But you can’t do it through a Facebook app, it has to be open in a browser. If your phone force you to use an app when you open a Facebook page then the easiest way is to simply open a new window/tab in an incognito mode and then login to your Facebook
They have removed the save option from my Messenger app. It no longer appears at the bottom when I hold my finger on the video
I still have all of the past videos I have received from this sender but this latest one does not appear with them.
@FACEBOOK #FACEBOOK HAS DISABLED THE SHARE FEATURE. WHY DID THEY DO SUCH A STUPID THING, IDK, BUT IT’S SOOOO FKED UP THAT THEY DO THIS JUST SO YOU CAN’T SHARE SOMETHING THAT IS IMPORTANT, IT’S CALLED REGULATION OF INFORMATION. SOMETHING THAT IS TOO INFORMATIVE,THEY DON’T WANT DISSEMINATED TO A TOO LARGE AUDIENCE.
So in private videos sent via messanger, just click the dots (…) beside the forward arrow and click «save to facebook». Then go to your «saved items» (right after you have clicked «save to facebook» a dialogue box will appear saying you have saved it and under says «view saved items». Or you could just search how to go to your saved items) then click on the video you want to download and it will automatically download on your laptop/computer. Idk if it works too on cellphone.
