Migrating from Yahoo Groups to Groups.io. How to set up Groups.io prior to making the transition from Yahoo Groups to Groups.IO. PART 1.. Me: My name is Callum, callsign M0MCX. I cannot stand Yahoo groups. I joined Baynet on groups.io; it’s so much better.
Generally I use google groups because it integrates well with google drive, and hangouts. Reddit is an excellent way to have long threaded conversations. Slack is great for chatting amongst active development groups, and Discord is the best for casual IRC-style chat (with a crapload more features than IRC).

Too funny, it was your birthday when you posted the video and mine when I read it. Great video. At the start I gave you thumbs down because of my ADD. But I waited and was glad I did. You speak fast, which is absolutely essential to get a thumbs up from me. Is there a video on using the the Direct Add instead of migration? Or are they essentially the same?
This is essentially my problem with IO Groups. It’s a bloody damn Orwellian Thought Control program to censor freedom of speech to the level of elementary school children.
Directly from the Creating a Group rules at IO Groups: Basic groups have 1GB of attachment storage and support up to 5 integrations. After you create your group, you will be able to upgrade it to a Premium or Enterprise group. Please ensure that your group adheres to our Terms of Service. We at Groups.io believe in freedom of expression, and it is our intention to respect different perspectives and enable them to co-exist seamlessly and effortlessly. We do not permit the following:
Pornography, adult content or nudity. (In other words no LGBT content. no fan groups Family Guy cartoons or Monty Python skits, no medical textbook photos, no evidence from the Nuremberg Trials about the abuse of Concentration Camp victims, no discussion of Monica Lewinsky or Marilyn Monroe, and absolutely no postings of Michelangelo’s paintings in the Vatican or Max Ernst’s painting of the Blessed Virgin Spanking the Holy Infant Before Three Witnesses could therefore logically be posted. ) Harassment of any kind. (In other words Neo Nazis who choose to join a group for Holocaust Survivors should not be subjected to any emotionally hurtful verbal criticism, right?) Groups that share media or content whose distribution would be in violation of copyright law. (In other words anything one of the five or six corporate media monopolies claim ownership of can not be posted except by somebody with enough money to hire a lawyer who can argue it’s like most of videos posted on You Tube within fair usage.) Groups dedicated to the promotion of extreme, hateful, or exclusionary ideas, including but not limited to, the alt-right. (In other words censorship of the politically incorrect by an extremely exclusionary self-appointed elite Orwellian theocracy who hate anyone disagreeing with them on anything. How well did that sort of censorship work out for the Third Reich or the USSR or the People’s Temple mass suicide cult?) Groups dedicated to the promotion of conspiracy theories, including, but not limited to: Gamergate, Pizzagate, and Qanon. (Yes, and censorship of individual’s denying them basic legal human rights of freedom of speech and association everybody else has by a wealthy powerful corporate elite in what way is not in fact logically implying their conspiracy theory may be more valid than one might otherwise consider it to be for anyone to be terrified enough of those theories to censor them? ) Groups dedicated to the promotion of anti-vaccination ideologies. (While I personally have no issues about getting vaccinations which I had a ton of during the 20 years I spent in the US Army in what way is it harmful to my own self-interests if somebody else wants to increase their risk of dying from a disease? Anybody engaging in unsafe sex with multiple sex partners increases their risk of dying of AIDS after all but it’s their life. The only objective way to measure the effectiveness of any medical treatment is to compare statistical outcomes of those who use it with those who choose not to.) Groups that are designed strictly to use our directory as an advertisement for something other than the group itself.
If you are creating a group solely for testing, please ensure that the Visibility option is set for Group not listed in directory, otherwise the group will be deleted.
Do you have any information about how to preserve or download messages history from a Yahoogroup? My group can not afford to transfer to Groups IO but would like to at least save our previous messages if possible. Thank you!
Hi Callum, Happy Belated Birthday. I remember those dial up days of the BBS. Sure was glad when Egroups made their appearance. It was nice that any subscriber could pay a $60 fee to remove all ads for that month. Yahoo gobbled them up, then had to put up with all their ads. I’ll need to check out Groups.IO as several of my Yahoogroups are considering migrating over there. 73 WB3BJU
